Beginning Ballroom

This is a pretty amusing video of Elizabeth and Hannah's beginning ballroom dance class. The music cuts out and they are missing a boy. But they still looked great - AND wholesome and didn't appear to be in training for Las Vegas or some other hussy joint.

World War II Class

I am wrapping up a semester class on World War II. It has been an interesting class - I would have to say that I now know way more about the Holocaust, the Nuremberg Trials, the Bomb, the Nazi party, rivalries between Allied generals, D-Day, the North African campaign,.... then I ever thought I would want to know. It's been great. But a little stressful.

I have met some new amazing heroes. The term hero has been redefined for me, it is not about action but rather about motives. Heroes never act to aggrandize themselves, they only see the world as it is, and as it should be and then put themselves in between to do what they can.

To Diet Eman, John Bradley and the Marines at Iwo Jima, Raoul Wallenberg, the boys of the 101st, Steve's Uncle Sterling, the prosecution team at Nuremberg, to the thousands of men and women who retained their humanity despite the great length of the war ... Thank you. Thank you.

Rebekah's Ballroom Dance

Here are Rebekah, Maren and Brielle in their cat women forms. Their ballroom dance team did a number to Stray Cat Strut and these were their costumes. The pants are really ucky but the dance was pretty cute. It's just not a song I ever thought of as something to do ballroom dance to.

Sarah is in the Middle East

Sarah left for the Middle East two weeks ago. She has spent the time touring Egypt at a lightening quick speed. She put pictures up on facebook but hasn't had time to blog. Now that she's in gameela Jordan maybe she'll have time to put something up. In the meantime our family has been reading books about Egypt.

We read - The Golden Goblet, Casting the Gods Adrift and will be listening to The Cat of Bubastes this week.

Next week we'll learn more about Jordan and especially Petra. I wish I could find a children's book about Petra - a historical novel type book, like The Golden Goblet. Maybe I need to write one.

Things I've learned from pets

I just learned from our Kitty that sometimes your children can get themselves into tight spots (like behind the piano) and you can meow at them and give them advice and encourgagement - but you can't pull them out. They have to get themselves out on their own. Then either they'll learn how to get out or they'll never go back there again.

We just got back from our annual family reunion at Bear Lake. This year we added a new adventure of tubing the Portneuf River in Lava Hot Springs. It was great! Definitely something we will do again.

Question of the week: What is your best vacation memory?

Question of the day

Do you think it is easier to mow the front lawn or the back lawn? Why?
